The JEEVES band, an acoustic-rocking trio from St. Petersburg, Russia. The musicians have taken a page from the sixties golden bands, yet increasingly start to address the serious matters of modern life through their bilingual Russian and English lyrics.
In late 2010 JEEVES made an indelible impression on the Russian A-One TV channel, with their song “Is Gambling A Sin?” describing the adverse phenomenon of gambling in the Russian society.
A month before, in November JEEVES cracked the hit-parade of the Radio Roks on eggtop.com, with “Is Gambling A Sin?” remaining #1 for 3 weeks running.
The JEEVES band was started a couple of years ago, staking out a gentle country-rock territory slightly resembling Nick Cave. In those days Alexey Bukharov, the song-writer and vocalist, after completing his UN’s ILO-IPEC career, proved an apt collaborator teaming up with Dmitry Orlov, then an independent ex-guitarist of bands of all sorts and a bright young psychiatrist with an extensive practice. Their début album “Is Gambling A Sin?” was out in the fall of 2010.
With a light acoustic&electric guitar rock underpinning and more or less conventional pop beats the JEEVES band goes for an old-school sound of responsible yet a touch provocative songs in English and Russian. Their drummer Sergey Terentiev distinguishes himself from the hirsute horde by his Dostoevsky looks and by playing sensibly the percussion and drums of the Motown quality.
The band is constantly on an extended road trip touring Moscow, St. Petersburg and Pskov. They’ve been augmenting the material of their début album “Is Gambling A Sin?” with new songs about current major-league events, so far singing about the terminal crisis of capitalism, milkmaids, UN projects, snowing and other aspects of every-day life in St. Petersburg.
